To restart DSFR on systems once a server(s) have been restarted if they are having issues, you need to run the following command from an elevated PS shell on a windows server.

wmic /namespace:\\root\microsoftdfs path dfsrVolumeConfig where volumeGuid="XXX1DEXX-50A9-XXXX-93F9-806E6FXXXXXX" call ResumeReplication

You can find the volumeGuid with the command: mountvol

Red Hat – Kernel Panic after yum update – Hyper-V

June 23rd, 2016 by admin No comments »

After a yum update on a Red Hat VM, hosted on a hyper-v environment. You might run into an issue where on boot, the system kernel panics.

This was observed when the update brought the RH system from RH less then 6.5 to 6.5+.

Should this occur you can try the following:

  • Boot system into previous kernel using the menu at boot
  • go into the /boot directory
  • backup the newest kernel: cp initramfs-2.6.32-642.el6.x86_64.img initramfs-2.6.32-642.el6.x86_64.img.$(date +%m-%d-%H%M%S).bak
  • Uninstall the hyper-v packages: yum remove kmod-microsoft-hyper-v microsoft-hyper-v
  • rebuild the kernel (updated) dracut -f initramfs-2.6.32-642.el6.x86_64.img 2.6.32-642.el6.x86_64
  • reboot the system

Update the EID on a Virtuozzo container after migrating/cloning it

April 13th, 2016 by admin No comments »

If you clone/migrate a Virtuozzo container, you will need to assign a new EID to prevent a conflict and negatively affecting the PVA management console.

To do this, on the new system do the following:

[]# service pvaagentd stop
Shutting pvaagentd: [ OK ]
[]# rm -f /var/opt/pva/agent/etc/configs/9XXXXac012-XXXX8-e44a-9cc4-XXXXXXXe98e <-- cloned container ID
[]# uuidgen > /vz/private/CID(container ID)/.vza/eid.conf
[]# service pvaagentd start
Starting pvaagentd: [ OK ]

The node was added to VA MN without any issues afterwards:

[root@rsl46 ~]# vzagroup list
Connecting to local host...
Resolving host's group role...
host is a slave in vzgroup, which master node address is PVAIDADDRESS

Operation 'list' completed successfully
