Dell Open Manage + nagios on Ubuntu 9.04 and up

November 10th, 2010

The following should get dell open manage installed on ubuntu systems:

echo 'deb http://linux.dell.com/repo/community/deb/latest /' |
      sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/linux.dell.com.sources.list
apt-get update
apt-get install srvadmin-all
apt-get install nagios-nrpe-server

cd /usr/local/bin
wget http://www.sogoth.com/nagios/check_dell
chmod +x check_dell

cd /etc/nagios
mv nrpe.cfg nrpe.cfg.orig

wget http://www.sogoth.com/nagios/nrpe.cfg
/etc/init.d/nagios-nrpe-server restart

You may need to run "service dataeng start"

You may get a battery warning. To edit this out:

vi check_dell

Find the section:

        vdisk = parse_om("storage vdisk controller=" + controller, vfilter)
        pdisk = parse_om("storage pdisk controller=" + controller, pfilter)
        battery = parse_om("storage battery controller=" + controller, bfilter)
        components = vdisk + pdisk + battery

Comment out #battery = parse_om("storage battery controller=" + controller, bfilter)
And remove battery from “components = vdisk + pdisk + battery” so that it is “components = vdisk + pdisk”

Like other installs, make sure the source IP is set properly and the firewall is modified to allow on the desired port, both declared in the nrpe.cfg file.
